Outset Money

Privacy Policy

Last updated October 11, 2026

Outset Money is a budgeting app provided by William Nelepovitz II (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what the app collects, why, who helps us run it, and the choices you have. We don’t sell your data, show ads, or track you across other apps and websites.

What we collect

  • Your account. Your email address, and your name if you sign in with Apple or Google and share it. We also keep an account ID that links your data to you.
  • Your budget. What you enter: your pay schedule and typical paycheck, budget categories and amounts, entries (amounts, dates, merchant names, categories and notes), bills, goals, and your time zone.
  • Your subscription. Whether you have Outset Pro, which plan, and when it renews or expires. Apple or Google handles payment; we never see your card details.
  • Ask Outset. How many questions you ask each day, so we can apply plan limits. We don’t store your questions or Outset’s answers on our servers.
  • Technical logs. Our server and hosting providers keep short-lived logs, such as request times, errors and IP addresses, to keep the service running and secure.

What stays on your phone

  • Voice. When you tap the microphone in Ask Outset, your phone’s speech recognition (Apple’s on iPhone, Google’s on Android) turns your words into text. Apple or Google may process the audio under their own privacy policies. The audio is never sent to us; only the text you choose to send is.
  • Face ID, Touch ID and fingerprint. Your phone checks these itself. We never receive biometric data.
  • Your budget on the device. The app keeps a copy of your budget on your phone so it works offline. Signing out removes it from that phone.

How we use it

To run the app: keep your budget in step across your devices, work out what’s safe to spend, manage your subscription, answer questions you ask, respond when you contact us, and keep the service secure and working. We don’t use your data for advertising.

Ask Outset and Anthropic

Ask Outset answers questions using Claude, an AI model from Anthropic. The app asks for your permission before the first question. When you ask one, we send Anthropic your question, the recent conversation, and the parts of your budget needed to answer it, such as category totals, entries, bills and goals. We don’t send your name or email address.

Anthropic processes this to write the answer under its commercial terms, which don’t allow it to use the data to train its models. You can turn Ask Outset’s sharing off at any time in Settings.

Who helps us run Outset

These companies process data for us, only to provide their part of the service:

  • Clerk: sign-in and accounts
  • Supabase: stores your budget
  • PowerSync: keeps your devices in step
  • Fly.io: runs our server
  • RevenueCat: tracks your subscription
  • Anthropic: answers Ask Outset questions
  • Apple and Google: sign-in, payments and app distribution

We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect people’s safety or our rights, or as part of a sale or reorganization of the app, in which case this policy would continue to apply.

How long we keep it

We keep your data while you have an account. When you delete your account, we delete your budget and account from our systems right away, and copies in our providers’ backups expire on their normal schedule, typically within 30 days. Apple and Google keep their own purchase records under their policies.

Your choices

  • See and correct it. Everything you’ve entered is in the app, and you can edit it there.
  • Export it. Settings > Export entries gives you every entry as a CSV file.
  • Delete it. Settings > Delete account removes your account and data. See how account deletion works.
  • Ask us. For any other request about your data, email support@tryoutset.com. We answer every request, wherever you live.

Security

Data travels over encrypted connections and is encrypted at rest by our providers. Each account can reach only its own data. You can also turn on Face ID or fingerprint lock in Settings. No system is perfectly secure, so please keep your sign-in methods safe too.

Children

Outset Money isn’t meant for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has given us information, email us and we’ll delete it.

Changes

If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top, and tell you in the app if the change is significant.
